Dear Parents & Guardians,

As you are undoubtedly aware, there was an incident in the high school cafeteria earlier in the week that involved a racial slur being used. I want to assure you all that we have been investigating the incident and working with all of the involved parties to have an appropriate resolution to the situation.

More importantly, I believe that educating our youth about the implications of their choices is crucial to have real growth. We have an outstanding student body and a dedicated, caring staff, all of which is conducive to having a positive school climate.

To that end, we have already had Joakim Lartey, a BOCES specialist, speak with some of our students. We will have him available once per week as long as we would like. We also have outstanding counselors who have formed close relationships with many of our students and are available to speak with them whenever necessary. We will continue to utilize our community as another resource to bring into the school and help our students. We are committed to using all of our available resources to further educate our students on the value of inclusiveness and the dangers of discrimination.

I thank you, in advance, for your support and any help that you can provide on the home front. Collectively, we will continue to ensure that your children feel safe, welcome, and included when inside the walls of Rondout Valley High School.

Sincerely,

Robert Cook
Principal
